I have a similar experience, with an upgrade to Gutsy Gibbon on my Dell tower, using an nVidia. Sound worked normally with 7.04, but when I upgraded to 7.10, it broke. It has not worked once.
- As with OP, I am also in audio group, and user privileges include audio devices. - the volume control applet shows with a red slash, and the error message that it can't find any devices to control. - I've worked through all the steps in the sound troubleshooting guide without success. - programs like alsamixer are failing to open devices under /dev/snd. There are only two character special files in that directory, seq and timer. I've included limited output from strace showing this. - I could not download the scripts the trouble-shooting guide mentions. Both links I found were dead. i've attached script output showing me going through the differnet commands it looks like this is set up for only one attachment, but you want three files... Here's the one. uname -a: Linux t-desktop 2.6.22-14-386 #1 Tue Feb 12 07:12:19 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux I've appended the lspci -vvnn output to the end of the script output. ** Attachment added: "output of manual commands for sound info" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/12698485/sound.log -- No sound after upgrade to Gutsy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157842 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
