Grub was working fine before the install. I specifically did not want
Ubuntu to touch Grub. So whatever happened to Grub should not have
happened, as Ubuntu should have left the working Grub alone.

That's what I thought, too, and I was reluctant to even try the
alternative disk. I was pressured into doing it on the Ubuntu forum.

Other than being a Dell, the hard drive and the memory are fine. And I
did check the disks for defects before running them. I always do. In
fact, I get the same results with the Kubuntu disk as I did with the
Ubuntu disk.

I will have that ready for you by tomorrow. I will reinstall the bad
version and photograph everything.
