On 2006-07-28 I wrote:
ยด... nothing happens on clicking
"Print Dialog" in the accessories menu,
and both printers are shown by name "unknown" in the "Print Manager"
menu item.

Nothing has changed upto now. Actual kernel
is 2.6.15-27-386 or -686.
Installed printers: 1. HP Deskjet 690C (local),
2. HP Laserjet 1100 (remote).
Both are working well.
Typing xfprint4 filename I receive the
warning "failed request with status 1030"
continuing until "Segmentation fault"
is reported.
J.-F. Wauthy ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) told me
on 2006-08-05 that all this is due to a bug
in cups, and it should b fixed by filling in the
ServerName directive in the client.conf file
in /etc/cups.
I am on dapper with xfce 4.3.90.2 Beta 1.
A client.conf file cannot be found anywhere.
In cups.d/ports.conf I read
 Listen localhost:631
 Listen /var/run/cups/cups.sock
and in browse.conf:
 Browsing on.

 Hope that helps.

Rainer
