allright, I'm lost.
I just upgraded to xserver-xorg-video-intel - 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu4 (latest 
updates), did a sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg, rebooted for good 
measure, and still the same issue with super slow compiz/firefox scrolling.
I'm with a 945 on a thinkpad T60 (relevant section of lspci attached).

I understood that this patch was also addressing this chipset, and
adding greedy (and turning off ExaNoComposite), but it is apparently not
the case.
