Public bug reported:

I found no other way to install ubuntu i386 on hp 6715b notebook then to
add acpi=off parameter to kernel. Without that parameter, installed
ubuntu system never finishes booting to multiuser GUI mode and booting
to single mode takes dozens of minutes stalling on:

Reading files needed to boot
Preparing rerstricted drivers

With acpi=off parameter system is missing power management features and
disk speed is cut to halfg according to hdparm

with acpi=off

 hdparm -tT /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
 Timing cached reads: 816 MB in 2.00 seconds = 407.66 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 130 MB in 3.03 seconds = 42.97 MB/sec

without acpi=off

 hdparm -tT /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
 Timing cached reads: 816 MB in 2.00 seconds = 998.25 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 130 MB in 3.03 seconds = 45.27 MB/sec

Wireless setup with restricted hardware drivers in Hardy Alpha 5 is not
leading to working WLAN.

Ubuntu Hardy Alpha 5
Linux 2.6.24-12 i686
