I just updated Hardy and I'm seeing the exact same behavior that Stefan is.
If I start pidgin I can send messages to yahoo and AIM with no problems. If the first messages is to a googlechat(XMPP) buddy then I crash immediately with the errors pasted below. However if I message a yahoo or AIM buddy first I can then send messages to googlechat buddies without crashing. I'll update this if I notice any more specifics.
