Same issue here with today's (2/23/08) daily build of Hardy for AMD64. Fresh install, enable Nvidia restricted driver, run 'sudo dpkg- reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg' immediately returns the post-install warning about overwriting a customized xorg. Running dexconf directly does reset the xorg.conf file, running dpkg-reconfigure -phigh after this still goes straight to the post-install warning. Running dpkg- reconfigure without -phigh goes through the keyboard questions, then spits out the warning without ever getting to the adapter/screen sections.
