OK, I have figured it out by myself. It would be nice if this were hardcoded in Hardy (no pun intended).
ORIGIN: According to this bug https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/31619 there is a hardware limitation by which compiz can only run in 16bpp mode in 1400x1050 resolution. SOLUTION: In this bug, a "fix" solves the issue by limiting compiz to 1024x768 resultion (@24bpp), which also works: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/124519 PROBLEM: Now, the user doesn't know why the 3D effects don't work. Here is how to enable them (going to 16bpp). This presupposes the Screen & Graphics applett doesn't work, as on my system as of right now: In ./etc/X11/xorg.conf put in DefaultDepth 16 in the Screen section. Append ~./config/compiz/compizconfig/config to include SKIP_CHECKS=yes -- [Hardy] No 3D-Effects OOB on Radeon Mobility 7500 (IBM T4x) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/191149 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
