I'm experiencing the same behavior in OpenOffice Draw 2.4.0 (on Kubuntu Hardy).
Version: openoffice.org-core 1:2.4.0rc2-1ubuntu3 (although the splash-screen says v2.3) The steps to reproduce are the same as mentioned by Roshan, except that my fill immediately disappears.
