I'm with Scott on this one - artificially limiting the speed at which
something is executed is contrary to my beliefs of good architecture in
this case, especially since this is a purely cosmetical aspect. I
contacted Peter Savage, the sound engineer and he's cool with leaving
out the shutdown sound because of these technical reasons.

Leaving out the shutdown sound is probably the best and only way to go,
but that's only a good sign for the distribution.
