Another option would be to reduce the far too many dependencies on these OpenOffice packages. I don't use OpenOffice, and was really surprised when I decided to remove the offending packages just how deep the dependencies have gotten. And, lastly, it shouldn't be the case that an error with some largely insignificant package prevents users from installing other, certainly more critical, and totally unrelated packages, unless the users happen to have deeper skills than the average user.
