Actually, it's the xserver which picks the driver automatically, the default xorg.conf does not contain any driver in it, but the driver manager adds it when you enable the restricted driver. dcherryholmes: so, you need to use the driver manager on your session, or write the driver to the xorg.conf. Either way should work.
