Hi!, Same problem here, (Vaio VGN-NR150FE), with the Intel x3100 graphic card / chipset).
However after trying the "sudo locate -u && for i in $(locate lcd-???-brightness); do sudo cp $i $i.bak; sudo sed -i '1 s|#!/bin/sh|#!/bin/bash|g' $i; done" "spicctrl......" commands I tried the backlight (xbacklight -set 60) and......... IT WORKED RIGHT AWAY!
