I think there several things mixed up my problem is, that "date modified" column usually gets hidden (though I usually want to order by it) most of width-space is taken by long filenames and file type names. maybe there could be option when window is not wide enouth, to calculate filenames-column width not to maximum name length, but to average ;) or just to remember the width or let me set max widths for each column (for case, when window is too narrow)
