I said I used pbuilder.

That said, after nuking my pbuilder archives and creating a new one to
ensure that I could reproduce a working build from scratch I noticed
that trang was segfaulting on the new builds. I had originally assumed
it was just a build environment problem that was preventing it from
working on my live system, but as it turns out my default pbuilder was
still based on feisty which was enough to make it work.

So feisty is capable of building the package that works (for me, at
least) on gutsy. And it is built with the source package provided by
gutsy. So here are the instructions:

Install pbuilder (if you haven't already)
sudo pbuilder create --distribution feisty
sudo pbuilder build trang.dsc #whichever is appropriate for the build

The package will be placed in /var/cache/pbuilder/result/
