Triaged to Incomplete. Linux security depends on an administrator's
password. There are other Linux distros that allow automatic root
login. Linux Mint 4 uses a compromise, a passwordless root account and
a password-protected user account. With the security issues of the
Internet today, it's doubtful that Ubuntu would allow passwordless
installations. In the future, you will see more electronic appliances
that are running Linux and obviously no password is required for these
devices to operate. For a desktop connected to the Internet, a password
is vital to overall security.
