I did some more digging through this: - If I shut down hal, the device works. - If I don't, sometimes it works, but usually uhci_hcd decides to do a reset of some kind. This has the unfortunate side effect of making the usb modem go away completely. - If I tell hal to ignore the device by modifying 20-broken-usb-sticks.fdi the device works as expected, every time. The virtual cdrom on these things is making hal sad.
So: please ignore my previous patch to usb-storage :) I've attached a debdiff to hal-info. This works for me in hardy - if someone else out there could try it and confirm it works for them? You need to modify /usr/share/hal/fdi/preprobe/10osvendor/20-broken-usb-sticks.fdi and restart hal (possibly even restart your machine to be on the safe side). ** Attachment added: "Instruct hal to ignore the usb-storage part of the huawei e220" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/12215469/hal-info_huawei-e220.debdiff -- HUAWEI E220 no longer works in Feisty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/105545 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
