Dear Derek (Morton), thank you so dearly for your immediate response to my question. -- IN the meantime i have ( as a newbie should) played around, searched, read and did all kind of things - finally came up with a solution. The program was in synaptic. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it , found it on the hard drive and folder and it is working...... In sources listings ( thanks for the hint) i did have universal activated. I am amazed at what the open source community does and seen only glimpses at what they have done - achieved. I am totally flabbergasted, impressed ... whatever. I hope that one day i can become involved in supporting this community in some way.... thanks a million heinz
