Similar problem. Freezing happens within minutes on a Compaq n610c laptop with an external monitor attached at high screen resolutions (1600x1200 external), (1450x1050 laptop LCD), while running firefox or Thunderbird. Lower either monitors resolution reduces the freezing rate, but does not stop it happening.
