Public bug reported:

First of all this is the result of upgrading to Hardy. Also I've
attached a file that I got by "saving all markings"

What I did:

Upgraded from gutsy using command "update-manager -d"

FAILED (something about missing a ubuntu desktop package)

Installed that package (required a bunch of other packages dealing with
edubuntu and kubuntu)

Tried to upgrade again, this time it went through the entire process.

What happened as result:

1. While at the very end of the installation some packages failed to
install.

2. Received this message:

[The upgrade aborts now. Your system could be in an unusable state. A
recovery will run now (dpkg --configure -a).

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the
files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bugreport.
installArchives() failed]

3. language-selector package shows up as broken and needed to be
installed.

4. language-selector package fails to install and I get this message:
[E: /var/cache/apt/archives/language-selector-common_0.2.10_all.deb: subprocess
new pre-removal script returned error exit status 1]

5. Unable to deselect language-selector package from synaptic package
manager.

6. Some programs like partition editor does not work.

7. Unable to install anything or reinstall anything as it crashes at the
reinstallation of language-selector package.
