Is anyone still seeing this in Gutsy? There was a kernel bug fixed in 2.6.22 (which is the kernel version used in Gutsy) that should make most instances of this problem go away (see the Linux kernel mailing list thread at http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/4/27/370).
If you are still seeing this bug in Gutsy, do you have a multiseat setup? If so, please post in bug #153425 -- the fix in kernel 2.6.22 doesn't seem to fix all screen shift problems in a multiseat X configuration.
