The bluetooth daemon wasn't running, though the module was loaded. I went in and restarted the service using the init script, and it began working, though now I can't connect to the mouse, getting a "Nautilus cannot open" error for obex. Which is to be expected given the transition away from gnome-vfs. This, however, is another problem entirely, which I hope will be remedied soon. It is safe to mark this bug as quashed. Sorry about this.
