Thanks for your bugreport.
This is most likely the different interpretation of viewports and
workspaces (as Travis explained below). Because all plugins that use the
virtual desktop use viewports and number of desktop is mostly ignored
and there is currently no (easy) way of switching between workspaces
(instead of viewports) I set the maximum workspace size to 1. This does
not affect the viewports nor the virtual desktop size.
