I think the problem is solved in the latest version:

Changelog:
* Recover desktop wallpaper display which was commented out accidentally during 
previous debugging.
* Fix incorrect title of windows.
* Show icons of *.desktop files in every folder.
* Slightly improve path entry.
* Resolve paths with '~' and '.', '..' in command line arguments, if they are 
not expanded by shell.
* Fix compiler errors on 64-bit machines
* Show lines in dir tree if gtk+ > 2.10.
* some minor fixes.

Get the 0.3.5.23  version from:
 http://www.getdeb.net/app/PCMan+File+Manager
and try to reproduce the bug.

 For me it works fine on Hardy, too.
 I hope PC Man File Manager will become default file manager for GNOME soon.
