I've updated to the latest 2.6.24-8 kernel and the problem is happening... When I was running 2.4.24-4 fresh from the Alpha4 install CD things were working fine. After the update things worked until I restarted (2nd time) after installing 2.4.24-8.
I've tried installing PulseAudio... no good... then I found this bug report and now I know there's not much I can do. I'm going to try to rev back to -4 and see if that fixes it... if not, I might rebuild the alsa drivers myself...
