"the fix for the load cycling error gets applied to optical drives as well as hard disks. this leads to somewhat scary kernel log errors such as Dec 21 21:56:48 kernel: hdb: drive_cmd: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }" Problem: hdparm -B 254 is applied to /dev/hdX and /dev/sdX. Some of these may be optical drives which don't support setting power management levels. Affected releases: This probably does NOT affect Gutsy ( DVD-drive here on Gutsy is /dev/scd0 - can one rely that optical drives will be /dev/scdX ? ). I don't know about older relases. (Dapper, Edgy, Feisty users: What is your DVD, CD-ROM drive called?) Impact: "scary kernel log errors". Nothing else for now. -- High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/59695 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
