This is probably a duplicate of bug #157691 I'm running 2.6.24-8-generic on gutsy (built it myself from git) and I'm still seeing this issue. Before I upgraded to the Ubuntu kernel, I was running 2.6.24-rc3 and 2.6.24-rc6 with no problems. I'll probably do some bisecting to find the culprit, but it seems this is already a known issue and there's no good workaround (see http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6001 and and bug #157691)
