Okay, now I see, sorry. This error was in Gutsy and I used Compiz 1:0.6.0+git20071006-0ubuntu2 with the open Radeon driver at that time. Which is a while ago. Meanwhile I switched to Hardy and managed to break the Radeon driver on my system beyond repair (even Compiz won't work with it anymore), so I cannot tell if the issue still remains or not.
