I found that the last workaround results in my external mouse not working correctly. The mouse will register one more click than there is supposed to be. If you go to the mouse panel and try the double-click check you will find that it immediately lights up on the first click. It should take two distinct clicks to do that. It doesn't matter what the double-click speed is set to. Also the menus don't stay open. You must hold down the left mouse button to get to any of the items (it was how I got to the mouse panel). I took out the lines and found that my mouse returned to normal operation again.
