You said that you has a "decentralized" usplash at boot and a low resolution. bug 147623 is about completely absent splash screen on ubuntu 64 bit with a nvidia geforce 8xxx card. In your case, you used a i386 CD so it's sure that this is not this bug. Also, this can be normal that usplash does not show if you choose different VGA than the normal one since the resolution of the screen need to be higher than the usplash theme.
Concerning bug 150930, do you also have problems with usplash once ubuntu Gutsy final release is installed on your computer? If yes, we should speak on this issue on another bug report since it happens in different circumstances than the original description of your bug report. One bug per report always need developers to fix the bugs.
