But I do know that the workaround for Gutsy is to build alsa yourself using this information - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HdaIntelSoundHowto?highlight=%28hda%29 The only gotcha with that method though, is that everytime your kernel is updated, you will have to rebuild alsa.
