Hello there. I remember somehow fixing the problem using the Konsole. I don't remember specifics, it was a few months ago, but I do remember that in Konsole it gives you an error message that doesn't show when you try to use adept. Try typing "sudo apt-get install updates" then peruse the forums for solutions to the error message given. Beyond that, I wish I could help you. (I run Kubuntu 7.10 as well.)
