There is a simple solution to all these problems. Unfortunately Ubuntu/Canonical Devs don't seem to find it appealing.
As mentioned above turning off USB autosuspend all together solves the problems most people encounter. It's just Ubuntu/Canonical seem to prefer having this enabled for the sake of being able to tell "we are concerving energy" while sacrificing USB 2.0 speeds for most of us! I am fully supporting conserving energy measures, but they need to work 100% reliable for everybody. At least in an LTS release! You guys can turn it on again after Hardy! But let things work out of the box for everybody in Hardy LTS!!!
