I have the same / similar problem but mine shows the "Application" menu selecting it does noting except display a 2x2 pixel item.
None of my apps are now available Please help this is URGENT. Without any apps all I can do is revert back to XP, (yuk!) I also cannot get the "System | Preferences | Main Menu" programme to work again.
