The update that claimed to "update dmcub fw for dcn32 and dcn401" replaced the real file /usr/lib/firmware/amdgpu/dcn_4_0_1_dmcub.bin.zst with a symlink to dcn_3_2_0_dmcub.bin.zst. Before (0ubuntu3.3 / Timeshift 2026-11-04_00-00-01): real file, 225553 bytes, md5 4ba7d5ddafac5fe090fdf886a6c0e916; DMUB version 0x0A000800; 0 DMCUB errors. After (0ubuntu3.4): symlink → dcn_3_2_0; DMUB version 0x07002F00 / 0x07002A00; "failed to load ucode DMCUB(0x3F)"; Wait for DMUB auto-load failed: 3; hundreds of dc_dmub / DMCUB errors per boot. Symptoms: multi-monitor hangs requiring power-button reboot; after restore of wrong layout, severe mouse lag from kworker dm_vblank_control_workqueue + Xorg InputThread (~40% each) while system load otherwise idle. Compute path (OpenGL/Vulkan) fine. Kernel: 7.0.0-42-generic (HWE). Distro: Linux Mint 22.x (Ubuntu noble packages). Workaround: restore real dcn_4_0_1_dmcub.bin.zst as a regular file (not a symlink) and apt-mark hold linux-firmware-amd-graphics.
