Public bug reported:

The pc-kernel snap for Ubuntu 26.04 (7.0.0-38.38r1, revision 3755,
26.04/stable) does not ship the firmware needed by the Wi-Fi card and
the audio DSP of Intel Lunar Lake laptops. On a fresh TPM-backed FDE
install (snapd-managed boot, firmware served from the kernel snap), Wi-
Fi does not work and the SOF audio driver cannot load its firmware. The
previous revision 3672 (7.0.0-28) has the same gap.

HARDWARE

- Dell Pro 14 Plus PB14250, BIOS 2.18.1
- Wi-Fi: Intel BE201 320MHz [8086:a840] (rev 10), driver iwlwifi, op_mode iwlmld
- Audio: Intel Lunar Lake-M HD Audio Controller [8086:a828], driver
sof-audio-pci-intel-lnl, codec cs42l43 over SoundWire

SOFTWARE

- Ubuntu 26.04, model canonical/ubuntu-classic-2604-amd64, grade signed
- pc-kernel 7.0.0-38.38r1 (rev 3755), pc 26.04-1 (rev 220), snapd
2.77.1+ubuntu26.04.2
- No pc-kernel component provides firmware (snap components pc-kernel only
lists nvidia and nouveau components)

MISSING FROM /snap/pc-kernel/3755/firmware

Wi-Fi (BE201):
- iwlwifi-bz-b0-fm-c0-*.ucode (92 to 101, c101 to c103) and
iwlwifi-bz-b0-fm-c0.pnvm
The snap ships iwlwifi-gl-c0-fm-c0-* and iwlwifi-sc-a0-* but no
iwlwifi-bz-b0-* file at all.

Audio (Lunar Lake SOF):
- intel/sof-ipc4/lnl/{community,intel-signed}/sof-lnl.ri
- intel/sof-ipc4-lib/lnl/{community,intel-signed}/drc.llext
- intel/sof-ipc4-tplg/sof-lnl-*.tplg, including sof-lnl-cs42l43-l0.tplg used by
this machine

All these files exist in upstream linux-firmware.

WORKAROUND IN USE

A local oneshot unit, ordered before sysinit.target, copies the missing
files from a local copy of linux-firmware into
/usr/lib/firmware/updates, then unbinds and re-probes the Wi-Fi PCI
device (0000:00:14.3). With it, the kernel log shows:

iwlwifi 0000:00:14.3: loaded firmware version 101.6e695a70.0
bz-b0-fm-c0-c101.ucode op_mode iwlmld
sof-audio-pci-intel-lnl 0000:00:1f.3: Firmware file:
intel/sof-ipc4/lnl/sof-lnl.ri
sof-audio-pci-intel-lnl 0000:00:1f.3: loading topology:
intel/sof-ipc4-tplg/sof-lnl-cs42l43-l0.tplg

Re-probing the audio device at runtime is not possible (it hangs the
SoundWire codec), so audio only works from the next boot after the copy.

EXPECTED

The pc-kernel snap ships the iwlwifi-bz-b0-fm-c0 firmware and the Lunar
Lake SOF firmware, library and topology files, as the linux-firmware deb
does, so that Wi-Fi and audio work out of the box on Lunar Lake hardware
with TPM-backed FDE.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
