Public bug reported:
Ubuntu should correctly locate and load the packaged Intel AX211 PNVM
firmware during device initialization.
The wireless adapter should initialize automatically following the
operating-system upgrade without requiring manual decompression or
relocation of firmware files.
Suspected Cause
A possible regression in the interaction between:
linux-firmware-intel-wireless firmware packaging;
Intel iwlwifi PNVM firmware lookup;
compressed .pnvm.zst firmware handling;
firmware search paths or initramfs generation.
The exact cause has not been isolated. In particular, it is not yet
established whether the problem arises from the firmware directory
structure, compressed-file handling, or firmware availability during
early initialization.
Requested Maintainer Action
Please investigate whether Ubuntu 26.04.1 correctly installs and exposes
Intel AX211 PNVM firmware to the iwlwifi driver.
In particular, please verify that iwlwifi-ma-b0-gf-a0.pnvm.zst, as
installed by linux-firmware-intel-wireless, is accessible through the
kernel's firmware-loading mechanism.
If a packaging or initialization regression is confirmed, please
consider a permanent fix so that users upgrading to Ubuntu 26.04 do not
have to manually decompress and install the PNVM file.
The manually installed uncompressed PNVM file is currently serving as a
successful workaround
