Public bug reported:

Hardware: HP EliteBook Folio 1020 G1 (Broadwell-U), BIOS M77 Ver. 01.08
Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS, GNOME on Wayland. Reproduced with kernels 7.0.0-38-generic
and 7.0.0-14-generic.

The touchpad is not recognized. libinput lists only "PS/2 Generic Mouse"
and no touchpad, so GNOME shows no touchpad settings, and there is no
palm detection, tap-to-click or disable-while-typing. The pad also
reacts too sensitively and the cursor jumps while typing.

/sys/bus/serio/devices/serio1/firmware_id: PNP: SYN3018 SYN0100 SYN0002 PNP0f13
/sys/bus/serio/devices/serio1/protocol: PS/2
Kernel config has CONFIG_MOUSE_PS2_SYNAPTICS=y, but no Synaptics detection
message is logged.

By default dmesg shows repeated "psmouse serio1: bad data from KBC -
timeout". The kernel parameter i8042.nomux (active when this report was
created) removes these timeouts, but the pad is still only a generic
mouse.

Tried without success: i8042.reset (also breaks Backspace),
i8042.noloop, i8042.nopnp, reloading psmouse (modprobe -r / modprobe),
synaptics_intertouch=1, suspend/resume, full power drain, older kernel
7.0.0-14. No I2C touchpad exists (only i915 gmbus and the i801 SMBus),
and the BIOS has no touchpad setting.

Expected: the touchpad is detected as a Synaptics touchpad by psmouse.
