Public bug reported:
[Impact]
* Resolute (26.04 LTS) ships deluge 2.2.1~dev0+20250824-3. Stonking (26.10)
has 2.2.1~dev0+20260307-1, a newer upstream snapshot of the same 2.2.1
development line, with fixes and small features that LTS users can
currently get only by upgrading the whole release. The deluge-team PPA
is not an option either: it has no resolute builds, and its 2.2.0 is
older than what resolute already ships.
* Upstream changes between the two snapshots (24 commits), among them:
- core: alert-poller thread blocked on pause with a pending alert
- core: option to announce to trackers in all tiers
- authmanager: mtime_ns fix
- gtk: skip config lookup for widgets with no modifier
- gtk: disable unsupported preference widgets when connected to an
older daemon
- console: rm -c flag conflicted with --config; new -y for rm --confirm;
placeholder torrent id when adding torrents
- scheduler: unable to save webui config (getConfig error)
The rest are tests, CI and documentation.
* Packaging changes in 20260307-1 are small: python3-libtorrent dependency
moved to deluge-common (Debian #1131841), the test suite is no longer
installed, and debhelper compat was raised to 14.
[Scope]
* Backport from stonking (26.10), deluge 2.2.1~dev0+20260307-1.
* Backport to resolute (26.04). No intermediate releases.
[Other Info]
* Not a no-change backport: 20260307-1 build-depends on
debhelper-compat (= 14), and resolute has debhelper 13.31 (compat <= 13).
The only change is lowering the compat level to 13:
--- a/debian/control
+++ b/debian/control

Build-Depends:
- debhelper-compat (= 14),
+ debhelper-compat (= 13),
* To check that compat 13 does not change the result, I compared the
binaries built for resolute with the official stonking binaries:
- file lists, Depends and contents of all six packages are identical,
except: changelog.Debian.gz is a regular file rather than a symlink,
and deluge-common has an extra dist-info/WHEEL file;
- PNG files differ only because the Launchpad buildds recompress them;
- deluged and deluge-web maintainer scripts contain the compat 13
dh_installsystemd snippets (the same ones every other resolute
package uses).
* Built with backportpackage + dpkg-buildpackage in a clean
ubuntu:26.04 container (26.04.1, debhelper 13.31ubuntu1).
lintian: no new issues apart from the Debian-specific
backports-upload-has-incorrect-version-number check, which does not
apply to the Ubuntu ~bpo26.04.1 scheme.
* Python 3.14 prints "SyntaxWarning: 'return' in a 'finally' block" for
deluge/ui/gtk3/connectionmanager.py at byte-compile time. The resolute
version prints the same warning, so this is not a regression.
* Test packages are available in my PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~gvozdetsky/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gvozdetsky/ppa
sudo apt install deluge (or deluged / deluge-web / deluge-console)
[Testing]
* Resolute:
[ ] Package builds without modification: no, it needs the one-line
debhelper-compat change above
[x] Package builds with that change
[x] deluge installs cleanly and runs
[x] deluge-common installs cleanly and runs
[x] deluge-console installs cleanly and runs
[x] deluge-gtk installs cleanly and runs
[x] deluge-web installs cleanly and runs
[x] deluged installs cleanly and runs
Test procedure (clean ubuntu:26.04 container):
1. Install deluge, deluged, deluge-console, deluge-web 2.2.1~dev0+20250824-3
from the archive; start deluged once so it creates its config.
2. Upgrade all six packages to 2.2.1~dev0+20260307-1~bpo26.04.1:
no errors, apt-get check is clean.
3. Start the new deluged with the config of the old version.
deluge-console: version (libtorrent 2.0.12.0, Python 3.14.4), all 10
bundled plugins listed; added a torrent created with python3-libtorrent
against existing data: hash check passes, state Seeding.
4. deluge-web: GET / returns 200; JSON API auth.login, web.connect to the
daemon and web.update_ui show the torrent as Seeding.
5. deluge-gtk (standalone mode, under Xvfb): starts, starts the embedded
core, loads the session and the torrent; still running after 20 s.
6. No ERROR/CRITICAL/Traceback in the daemon, web and GTK logs.
[Reverse dependencies]
* cinnamon-desktop-environment and lxde list deluge only as one of
several alternatives; no other reverse dependencies.
