Public bug reported:
**Problem**
On Ubuntu 26.04, closing the laptop lid does not suspend the system when
an external monitor is connected. The external monitor remains active.
**Hardware and software**
- Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 4 (AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 7840U)
- Lenovo ThinkPad T480
- Ubuntu 26.04 on both laptops
- Kernel version on both systems: `7.0.0-38-generic`
- External monitor connections: USB-C and HDMI
The same issue occurs on both laptops, which have different hardware
platforms.
**Expected behavior**
The laptop should suspend when the lid is closed, even when an external
monitor is connected.
**Actual behavior**
Closing the lid does not trigger suspend. The external monitor remains
active.
**Troubleshooting**
- On both laptops, `lid-close-suspend-with-external-monitor` is set to `true`,
but this does not resolve the issue.
- On the T14 Gen 4, changing the relevant `systemd-logind` lid-switch settings
also had no effect.
- Manually suspending the T14 from the system menu works.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Boot Ubuntu 26.04.
2. Connect an external monitor via USB-C or HDMI.
3. Leave the laptop running.
4. Close the laptop lid.
5. Observe that the system does not suspend.
The issue occurs on two different ThinkPad models with different
hardware platforms, using the same Ubuntu and kernel versions.
Could this be caused by GNOME power management or its interaction with
systemd-logind when an external monitor is connected?
