Public bug reported: Package: fcitx5 (Ubuntu), release: resolute (26.04)
[ Impact ] With fcitx5 as the input method on GNOME Wayland, apps that reach it through GNOME Shell's IBus support (Chrome, Chromium, Edge and Electron apps running natively on Wayland) lose the word still being composed when the user clicks with the mouse, in the same field or another one. fcitx5 5.1.19 always sends the preedit with IBUS_ENGINE_PREEDIT_CLEAR, so mutter clears it on reset instead of committing it. Upstream changed this to IBUS_ENGINE_PREEDIT_COMMIT in 5.1.20: https://github.com/fcitx/fcitx5/commit/10ca8e0c7 GTK apps using the fcitx5 GTK module, and all X11 apps, are not affected: the module commits the preedit itself on reset. [ Test Plan ] 1. Ubuntu 26.04, GNOME Wayland session, fcitx5 as input method with an engine that shows a client-side preedit. 2. Open a text area in Google Chrome (native Wayland, the default). 3. Type a word without finishing it, so it is still underlined, then click elsewhere in the text. 4. Before the fix the underlined word disappears; after it, the word stays where it was typed. Tested with the Ngó Sen engine (fcitx5-ngosen) in Preedit mode, Chrome 155: the word was lost 3 times out of 3. Not tested with other engines such as fcitx5-chinese-addons, though the change is in the frontend, not the engine. [ Where problems could occur ] Only the IBus frontend and only the preedit mode flag change. A client that does not expect a commit on reset could now receive the composed text where it previously got nothing; segments engines mark as "don't commit" still use the old behaviour. ** Affects: fcitx5 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2172006 Title: Clicking in a Wayland-native Chromium/Electron window drops the word being composed (fixed upstream in fcitx5 5.1.20) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fcitx5/+bug/2172006/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
