Same regression here on a laptop with an internal OLED panel (AMD APU, DCN 2.1).
So it is not limited to RDNA2/RDNA4 dGPUs or external DP/HDMI monitors.
Hardware:
- ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED UN5401QA (BIOS UN5401QAB_UN5401QA.308)
- AMD Ryzen 5000 "Cezanne", Radeon Vega iGPU [1002:1638], Display Core on DCN
2.1
- Internal eDP OLED panel: Samsung ATNA40YK04-0, 2880x1800 @ 90/60 Hz,
backlight device amdgpu_bl1 (max_brightness 399000)
Software:
- Kubuntu 26.04, Plasma / KWin 6.6.6 (Wayland)
- mesa 26.0.8-1ubuntu0.3, linux-firmware 20260319.git217ca6e4.1ubuntu
- Kernel command line: default ("quiet splash"), no amdgpu parameters
Symptom:
Short but heavy display glitches on the internal panel. They show up every time
PowerDevil dims the screen on idle, and again when it ramps back to full
brightness. What appears varies: corrupted areas, and quite often other windows
briefly showing through the window on top (same as described above).
Kernel versions:
- 7.0.0-34-generic: no glitches
- 7.0.0-38-generic: glitches on every dim/undim
I confirmed this by booting 7.0.0-34 again with grub-reboot. Same userspace,
glitches gone. No graphics userspace packages (mesa, kwin, powerdevil,
linux-firmware) changed between the two boots, only the kernel.
Tried on 7.0.0-38:
- power_dpm_force_performance_level = high: does NOT help on this machine
(unlike the R9700 report above).
Not yet tested: amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x10 (PSR off) on 7.0.0-38.
