Public bug reported: Environment:
Distribution: Xubuntu 26.04 LTS Device: Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ (SM-T970) USB vendor/product ID: 04e8:6860 libmtp: 1.1.22-1ubuntu1 Description: ------------ When connecting a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ via USB, the device initially appears in Thunar's Devices sidebar. Clicking the device triggers an authorization prompt on the tablet. Immediately after selecting "Allow" on the tablet, the device disappears from Thunar. As a result, browsing the tablet's filesystem is not possible. With previous versions of Ubuntu, the device would still be listed in the devices section, and upon clicking on that device again, I would see the contents of the tablet's filesystem. Workaround: ----------- Close Thunar, and open Thunar again. The samsung device has re-appeared, and clicking on it shows the tablet's filesystem. My theory: ---------- The authorization process results in the device's disconnection, and reconnection, where the device ID ends up changing. Looking at the `dmsg` output at the moment I press the "Allow" button on the tablet, we can see the following logs: << usb 3-5: USB disconnect, device number 11 usb 3-5: new high-speed USB device number 12 using xhci_hcd usb 3-5: New USB device found, idVendor=04e8, idProduct=6860 >> So the theory would be that Thunar loses track of the device because of that ID change. Other info: ----------- I tried with both USB-2 and USB-3, no difference. I found the following report that suggests other users might be facing the issue? https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=309433 $ apt policy gvfs gvfs-backends thunar gvfs: Installed: 1.60.0-1ubuntu0.1 Candidate: 1.60.0-1ubuntu0.1 Version table: *** 1.60.0-1ubuntu0.1 500 500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu resolute-updates/main amd64 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu resolute-security/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1.60.0-1 500 500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu resolute/main amd64 Packages gvfs-backends: Installed: 1.60.0-1ubuntu0.1 Candidate: 1.60.0-1ubuntu0.1 Version table: *** 1.60.0-1ubuntu0.1 500 500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu resolute-updates/main amd64 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu resolute-security/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1.60.0-1 500 500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu resolute/main amd64 Packages thunar: Installed: 4.20.7-1 Candidate: 4.20.7-1 Version table: *** 4.20.7-1 500 500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu resolute/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 26.04 Package: gvfs 1.60.0-1ubuntu0.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 7.0.0-38.38-generic 7.0.14 Uname: Linux 7.0.0-38-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.34.1-0ubuntu0.1 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: pass CurrentDesktop: XFCE Date: Sun Oct 11 08:35:24 2026 InstallationDate: Installed on 2026-08-21 (51 days ago) InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 26.04 "Resolute Raccoon" - Release amd64 (20260423.1) SourcePackage: gvfs UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: gvfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug resolute -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2170498 Title: MTP Samsung tablet disappears from Thunar after USB authorization; restarting Thunar restores access To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/2170498/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
