Update with a stack trace from a stalled boot (kernel 7.0.0-38, default settings: nvidia-drm fbdev=Y, Secure Boot off).
With default settings, about 2 of my last 4 boot/shutdown attempts stalled, so this reproduces without any workaround. Alt+SysRq+W, taken about 3 minutes after the boot started, shows the udev worker that is loading nvidia_drm stuck in uninterruptible sleep. The same task is at the same place in three dumps over ~10 seconds. Reliable frames, top to bottom: rwsem_down_write_slowpath <- down_write <- os_acquire_rwlock_write <- portSyncRwLockAcquireWrite <- rmapiLockAcquire <- kgspInitRm_IMPL <- RmInitAdapter <- rm_init_adapter <- nv_start_device <- nv_open_device <- nvidia_dev_get <- nvkms_open_gpu [nvidia_modeset] <- AllocateDevice <- EnumerateGpus <- nv_drm_register_drm_device [nvidia_drm] So it blocks on the RM API lock during first-time GPU/GSP init, which is triggered by loading nvidia-drm. There are no i915, fbcon, or console- lock frames. gpu-manager (pid 1769) is also in D state at the same time. nvidia- persistenced failed during the stall because /dev/nvidia* did not exist yet. nvidia-powerd is disabled. Full dump attached. ** Attachment added: "stall-boot.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-595/+bug/2169798/+attachment/6006721/+files/stall-boot.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2169798 Title: nvidia-drm modprobe hangs during boot/shutdown on hybrid laptop (RTX 5060, nvidia-driver-595-open), regression starting with kernel 7.0.0-31 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-595/+bug/2169798/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
