Public bug reported:
After upgrading to kernel 7.0.0-38-generic, multiple desktop applications fail
to start or require several repeated attempts before launching. The issue is
not present on kernel 7.0.0-34-generic, where everything works perfectly and
responsively.
Affected applications (observed):
Telegram Desktop – does not launch at all (process either hangs or exits
silently).
Terminal emulator – takes 3–4 consecutive attempts to open a new window.
Text editor (gedit / mousepad) – same behaviour: multiple failed attempts
before the window finally appears.
Many other GUI applications exhibit similar symptoms (long unresponsive delay
on click, or simply never open).
Steps to reproduce:
Boot into kernel 7.0.0-38-generic.
Log into a desktop session (GNOME/KDE/X11/Wayland – specify yours).
Attempt to launch Telegram Desktop, a terminal emulator, or a text editor.
Observe that the application either does not start or requires 3–4 repeated
clicks/attempts.
Reboot into kernel 7.0.0-34-generic.
Repeat step 3. All applications launch instantly and normally.
Expected behavior:
All applications launch promptly on the first attempt, as they do on kernel
7.0.0-34-generic.
Actual behavior:
Applications fail to launch or hang indefinitely. Terminal and text editor
require 3–4 attempts before a window finally appears. The desktop feels
unresponsive and sluggish.
Workaround:
Boot into kernel 7.0.0-34-generic. The issue is completely absent.
