Public bug reported: papilo 3.0.1+ds1-2 fails to build from source in stonking.
Regressing architectures (built before with 2.4.4+ds-1build1, fail now): amd64, amd64v3, arm64, ppc64el, s390x. armhf and riscv64 build fine. Build log(s): - https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/papilo/3.0.1+ds1-2/+build/33496887/+files/buildlog_ubuntu-stonking-amd64.papilo_3.0.1+ds1-2_BUILDING.txt.gz - https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/papilo/3.0.1+ds1-2/+build/33496888/+files/buildlog_ubuntu-stonking-amd64v3.papilo_3.0.1+ds1-2_BUILDING.txt.gz - https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/papilo/3.0.1+ds1-2/+build/33496889/+files/buildlog_ubuntu-stonking-arm64.papilo_3.0.1+ds1-2_BUILDING.txt.gz - https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/papilo/3.0.1+ds1-2/+build/33496891/+files/buildlog_ubuntu-stonking-ppc64el.papilo_3.0.1+ds1-2_BUILDING.txt.gz - https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/papilo/3.0.1+ds1-2/+build/33496893/+files/buildlog_ubuntu-stonking-s390x.papilo_3.0.1+ds1-2_BUILDING.txt.gz Diagnosis (deterministic matcher): dpkg-gensymbols-mismatch — "dpkg-gensymbols: error: some symbols or patterns disappeared in the symbols file". Root cause: non-optional C++ template instantiations listed in debian/libpapilo-core1d.symbols are no longer exported, e.g.: _ZN6papilo14row_implies_LBIdEEb...@Base _ZN6papilo7ProblemIdE18substituteVarInObjERKNS_3NumIdEEii@Base _ZTVN6papilo16EmptyCertificateIdEE@Base _ZTVN6papilo6VeriPbIdEE@Base (also typeinfo/vtable for PresolveMethod<double>, row_implies_UB<double>) The failing set is exactly the architectures where Ubuntu enables LTO by default (armhf/riscv64, without LTO, build fine), so LTO inlining / devirtualization is very likely dropping these symbols. Debian builds the identical 3.0.1+ds1-2 without LTO and succeeds. Toolchain: g++-15 15.3.0-4ubuntu1, libboost1.90-dev. Suggested fix (either): - Ubuntu delta: export DEB_BUILD_MAINT_OPTIONS += optimize=-lto in debian/rules; or - mark the affected template-instantiation symbols as (optional) in debian/libpapilo-core1d.symbols (suitable for forwarding to Debian, as symbols files for heavily templated C++ libraries are fragile). No existing Launchpad or Debian bug found. ** Affects: papilo (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: ftbfs stonking update-excuse ** Tags added: ftbfs stonking update-excuse -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2168984 Title: papilo 3.0.1+ds1-2 FTBFS on amd64, amd64v3, arm64, ppc64el, s390x To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/papilo/+bug/2168984/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
