OTP_BOOT_DONE", internal speakers silent on 7.0.0-28, -31 and -34;
working on 7.0.0-30
Hardware: ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED UX3402ZA, BIOS UX3402ZA.311 (06/03/2025)
Audio: Realtek ALC294 (PCI SSID 1043:1e02), 2x Cirrus Logic CS35L41 over SPI
(spi0-CSC3551:00)
OS: Linux Mint (Ubuntu 24.04 base), HWE kernels, firmware-sof-signed
2023.12.1-1ubuntu1.11
Problem:
Internal speakers are silent. Headphone jack and HDMI work. Both amplifiers
fail at boot:
cs35l41-hda spi0-CSC3551:00-cs35l41-hda.0: Adding DSD properties for 10431E02

with error -12
(same for .1)
Kernel results (from journalctl -k over previous boots and manual tests):
- 7.0.0-30-generic: WORKS ("Firmware Loaded - Type: spk-prot, Gain: 17" for
both amps)
- 7.0.0-28-generic: FAILS (OTP_BOOT_DONE)
- 7.0.0-31-generic: FAILS (OTP_BOOT_DONE)
- 7.0.0-34-generic: FAILS (OTP_BOOT_DONE)
Notes:
- The SOF stack loads fine; only the CS35L41 amps fail.
- Full power-off and EC reset did not help on the failing kernels.
- Custom modprobe options (dsp_driver) were present on the working boot but
removing them on the failing kernels made no difference.
- 7.0.0-30 was reinstalled from noble-updates and works again; it is now pinned.
- I have not verified whether 7.0.0-28 ever worked on this machine, so this may
be
intermittent or timing/boot-state dependent rather than a strict regression.
Please let me know which logs to attach (dmesg, alsa-info).
