Public bug reported:
System: Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ADA05 (Type 81W1), AMD Ryzen 5 3500U, Ubuntu
26.04 LTS, kernel 7.0.0-31-generic. BIOS E8CN41WW (latest available for
this model).
Issue: The xHCI USB controller at PCI address 0000:03:00.4 repeatedly
crashes shortly after boot (typically 5-110 seconds in, timing varies),
always right after a Genesys Logic USB2.0 Hub (idVendor=05e3,
idProduct=0608) enumerates on it. Bluetooth (hci0) sits behind this hub
and becomes permanently unavailable once the crash occurs, along with
anything else on that controller.
Kernel log signature:
xhci_hcd 0000:03:00.4: xHCI host not responding to stop endpoint command
xhci_hcd 0000:03:00.4: xHCI host controller not responding, assume dead
xhci_hcd 0000:03:00.4: HC died; cleaning up
Troubleshooting already performed, none resolved the issue:
- Confirmed no rfkill block, bluetooth.service running normally
- Manually unbinding/rebinding the xhci_hcd driver temporarily restores the
controller, but it crashes again within seconds to ~2 minutes
- Unloading the btusb driver entirely before rebind: controller still crashes,
ruling out Bluetooth's own driver as the trigger
- Confirmed already on the latest kernel and latest available BIOS for this
model
- No BIOS option exists to disable USB3/xHCI on this platform
- Added a targeted usbcore.quirks=05e3:0608:k kernel boot parameter to work
around a potential hub negotiation issue — did not help, crash recurred with
identical signature
This appears to be a hardware/firmware-level fault, likely involving the
internal USB hub or xHCI controller and its interaction with AMD's SoC
platform under Linux, rather than a Bluetooth-specific software issue.
