So, what is the actual reason to include all this to initrd? Initrd in 99% cases is not supposed even to enable network, - everything it needs is in memory already, included into initrd itself. openssl and certs are of significant size. Why to increase initrd build time and boot time for all users when most likely no one actually needs this?
This looks to me like a very wrong place to do things. Now when this change is being proposed to debian, I'm strongly against it, because it serves no useful purpose whatsoever, and makes things noticeable worse for all users. If it is for casper, can't casper copy the certs?
