I can reproduce this on a MacBookPro11,4 with an APPLE SSD SM0256G. With 7.0.0-30-generic I encountered repeated ATA host bus errors and I/O errors on /dev/sda, followed by EXT4 errors/read-only filesystem behaviour.
I switched the same Ubuntu 24.04 installation to the GA 6.8 kernel (6.8.0-138-generic) and removed the 7.0 HWE kernel. Since then the machine has been stable through multiple reboots, package/system updates, software installations and several days of normal use. I have not seen any host bus error, /dev/sda I/O errors or EXT4 errors under 6.8. I also briefly used a 24.04.2 installer/live environment with kernel 6.11, but I did not test 6.11 sufficiently on the installed system to say whether it is affected. SMART reports the SSD as PASSED, with Raw_Read_Error_Rate=0, Reallocated_Sector_Ct=0 and UDMA_CRC_Error_Count=0.
